Welcome to Wickenby Parish Council
Wickenby is a hamlet and civil parish in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) south-west from the town of Market Rasen .
Wickenby existed at the time of Domesday Book of 1086 when it consisted of fifteen households.[1]
The parish church is a limestone Grade II* listed building dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Lawrence and dating from the 12th century, although it was restored in 1868 by George Gilbert Scott. In the east wall of the south aisle is set a brass to Henry Millner, who died in 1635.[2]
Wickenby railway station on the Sheffield and Lincolnshire Extension Railway, opened in 1848 and closed in 1965.[3]
In Memory of Councillor Adrian Clack
On behalf of Wickenby Parish Council it was with great sadness, that just before Christmas we heard the very saddening news, that a very dear friend and fellow councillor Mr Adrian Clack (Ade), had passed away suddenly. Ade served on the Parish Council several times over the years and was co-opted back on again in 2021.
Ade was a true pillar of the community. He was always seen out and about with that infectious smile walking his Jack Russell dog, Alfie, through the village and chatting to members of the parish about how things were going. Ade was always willing to help and get involved with parish events. In 1992, Ade was one of the instigators for the creation of a public footpath situated on the Snelland Road within the village. Ade, with the help of other counsellor’s ensured the village picnic site was well maintained. He also got involved in carrying out litter picking within our community and helping at recent village events including, quiz nights, the summer fete and a fun run / walk and being the jovial chef at the village BBQ.
The Council sends it heartfelt sympathy and condolences for the tragic loss of such a kind, friendly gentleman to Councillor Adrian Clacks’ wife Sara, children David, Tom, Joseph and Mathew and extended family. Members of the Parish Council and village members of Wickenby will remember Ade as a true friend, neighbour, and colleague who will be missed by many and, his dedication to improving the local area and lives of those within and around your parish. On behalf of the Parish Council, we would like to thank Ade for many years of service, time and commitment to the local community. He will be so truly missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace Councillor Clack (Ade).
